Just something to add to the discussion...

Whether it be a Republican or Democrat as President, a lot of laws and changes related to Health Care, etc. depends on whether the Congress is Democrat or Republican...you can correct me on this one if you desire...

I'm not totally familiar with detailed parts of the Government, but I would guess the President's position on such matters as Health Care and such would mean they would try and push certain bills along to Congress to be passed...the President cannot make laws by himself! (That would make it a "Dictatorship" Government)

In the past 15 years I've been able to familiarize myself with the Japanese Government and I can say that the U.S. still has a better system...just gotta get those 200 yr old bugs out, still.

Japan doesn't elect the Prime Minister by the people! It's done by other Gov. Officials!

Unlike the U.S. having States manage road repairs, maintenance and such, as well as schools, Japan still has the primary government look over it all, and it is totally out of balance....some schools are in serious need for funds while others are plentiful and they ask the Gov for assistance...not their Prefecture. Hmmm....

Oh, can't forget...the Social Security system in Japan is still F'd up, too..that's another beaurocratic embezzelment problem (or total lack of management).

Which reminds me...I gotta find out how to get an Absentee Ballot!

Yes, Fred, that is correct. However, I think the president does have the ability to pick supreme court justices on his own, which can affect the interpretation of laws and the constitution. So, congress can make a law, but the supreme court can interpret the law in a way that congress did not intend. I think that is the way it works; someone help me out.

<b>edit:</b> i was wrong, the president only has the power to nominate supreme court justices, then the nominations have to be approved by the senate.

Cheeses Fred, you want Obamayomama to adopt <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.abc15.com/content/news/webxtra/story.aspx?content_id=f710913e-d79c-4473-a597-d740d46df9b5">Japanese Methods</a> just because you live in Japan? You probably don't even vote <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

Nope, I don't want Obamamama to adapt any nasty habits the Japanese Gov. has gotten...and it has nothing to do with my living in Japan...(the Gov. insists on making a law for foreigners to have a particular language ability as requirement for a visa...though that sounds like a good idea for the U.S. border patrol, too!!)

As for voting, I didn't vote in the last one cause I forgot to send my absentee ballot in...the one before that I may had not made the deadline cause of the snail-mail.
This one, I don't know if I can vote cause I may be infringing some local laws, like having to be physically in the States to be eligible to vote....doesn't make sense, neither!
