Pressure Cooker and boiling nebs

I never even thought of using a pressure cooker!
Our RT gave us a basket, like the kind used for baby bottles. Our dishwasher has a sterilizing button, so I run the nebs with our dishes each night on sterilize.

It takes 70 minutes to bring a pot of nebs to a boil?! How long is it taking you to cook your food...?! I would think that ALL of your cooking is probably making your electric bill go through the roof. I might get copies of your electric bill before and after you had this stove and present them to your landlord and complain about this. It may well be justification to get the stove replaced, whether or not it's new. Or something to consider in getting the stove replaced yourself (it may pay for itself in a matter of months.)

With electricity costing such a premium price where you live, I would really look into the cost of the boys' medical equipment. You are already paying for it every time you write the check to the electric company... you may as well find out, just in case there is something you can do w/ the information.

What kind of stove do you have? If you have a ceramic top stove, you need a flat bottom pan, otherwise it takes forever. I used to have a pasta pan that drove me nuts as it took forever to heat up on our stove. Wasn't flat bottomed like my all-clad pans.

One thing I used to use while traveling was a deep fryer -- ala amy/noexcuses. Use it to boil the water. Another option could be a hot pot.

You got me excited Liza about just not having the right pans, but I looked and my pans are flat I was thinking about a hot pot also!!!

This stove is brand new and it is a GE, so I don't know what is going on. It takes about 20 minutes or more to get the water boiling, but it is the largest 8 quart stockpot, so that may be why ????

thanks REbecca for your reply, I knew there was someone here How high do you fill the cooker with water and how many nebs can you sanitize at once. Do you put the bubble masks in too???

blessings,
missa

I can fit 6 Pari nebs in plus 6 pari masks. i don't use Bubbles masks cause the color boils off. I fill the water just so it covers all the parts. I told the RT at clinic I use a pressure cooker and he said yup that'll clean the nebs.

thanks Rebecca!!! I was reading that a pressure cooker is basically a smaller version of an autoclave that they use at the hospitals for sterilizing equipment...I am not sure we can get much better than that

Try boiling a portion of the water first then adding more water to it. It takes less time to get a smaller volume of water to boil! Say you use a quart of water, boil a quarter of it and then add another, let that come to a boil and then add the rest you will cut down on the time it takes to get the water to to boiling.
