Does anyone here use a generic for prilosec? If so, how does it work for you? Have any of you switched to Nexium, and how does it work for you?

Thanks.

Been on all varieties of those meds....Prilosec, Achiphex, Protonix, and now Nexium. So far, Nexium has been the best for me as far as controlling the reflux...but we will see. Hugs, Jenn <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Hey Emily,

I take Prilosec in the morning and Protonix in the evening...Prilosec on its own doesn't work for me nor does Protonix, but together they do a great job.
The only thing I notice, since both these drugs lower the PH in your stomach is I am more prone to stomach viruses etc because normally the higer PH kills a lot of the bacteria and or viruses, but anyway.. regurg and reflux is gone....

Hope to chat with you soon.. I could use a good laugh....

I take prilosec two pills in the morning. used to take one but it stopped working. jennifershope you should take a probiotic it will help with the stomach problems if you aren't already. I had similar problems and it helped.

i wish there was a better way to combat reflux that didnt involve drugs that can actually harm you in the long run....i am not sure the details but i know prilosec isnt the best thing for you overall...ugh, oh well, i meanwithout it i would absolutely be miserable.

my insurance is going to stop paying for prilosec. I either have to pay for it myself, or use the generic. So what I need to know is if anyone has used the generic and if it was as effective as the name brand. thanks.

I normally use the generic and it works just fine. Oddly enough the generic only comes in 20mg so if you take 40mg you might make sure your oharmacy will replace 40mg with (2) 20mg capsule. A pharmacy close to me wouldn't fill it unless I rec'd the 40mg brand name which costs us much more.

have a good day.

i used to take Prilosec till my insurance didnt want to pay for it. They do however pay for Prevacid, which seems to work just as well for me , if not better.
