I don't know anything about their effect on the lungs, but they have been great for keeping my thrush under control.

I give Brea Probiotics just to give some of the good stuff back. She is pancreatic sufficient, but she sill gets the upset tummy when she is on antibiotics.

I give it to Brandon everyday.. its in his milk.
They were explained to me a what others said good bacteria that eats the bad bacteria in your whole body and helping promote rebuliding anything that need repaierd internally. The people at my health food store ( owners have 2 sons with cf) said most importantly to use probiotics. Another employee had a grandchild who was born with hadycaps and was told her muscles were deteriating and would never walk... they gave her probitics along with great supplemnets and now she walk and is a normally functioning little girl.

probiotics are good for every one, I even take them as well as give them to my dd who doesn't have cf.

I use the DDS brand, non-dairy ( we are allergic to whey)

When Brandon was put on an antibiotic the dr. prescribed a probiotic mix to help out not haveing diarreah. It had whey in though and he kept getting sick.. so I found a non-dairy one... I think is best to use with the antibiotics, because they will strip all good and bad bacteria so you can replace the good stuff.

I almost think the clinics should reccommend them to everyone. they have become more mainstream and medically proven to help and never has there been a case whee they did any harm.
also you cannot OD on probiotics, your body will just waste what it doesn't use, but it is best to know the right doesing becasue you never wanna throw away money like that.
My jar of DDS brand was $20 and I have used it a month now and ther is still alot left I will assume it will last generally a month if the whole family uses it daily and 21/2 months if its just used for Brandon.

Sorry a little long response.. I just LOVE probiotics <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

My daughter has been taking probiotics since she was about 15 months old (she is almost 5.5 now). She takes one a day normally but we increase to 2 a day when she is taking antibiotics and for about 2 weeks after taking antibiotics. I definately notice a difference in her bm's being fluffier & softer along with tummy aches when she is not taking them (like when I forgot to bring them on our 1 week vacation!).

She takes Probiotic Eleven by Nature's Way which has 11 different strains totalling 6 billion microorganisms per capsule (which means it is high strength) and Culturelle. I get the Culturelle from Walmart, they seem to be the cheapest and the Probiotic Eleven from a health food store in the fridge section.
