Problems with Levaquin

I had horrible joint pain and insomnia from levaquin so you're not alone! I don't take it anymore. It took a couple weeks for the symptoms to go away completely after I stopped taking it but they did eventually stop...

I have taken it many times over the years.
5 times this year alone. No Problems other that
normal Abx issues ie. constipation.

It always works great for me.

I took Levaquin for years as my alternate to TOBI - One month on and one month off when I wasn't on my TOBI month. I didn't have issues until about a yr after taking it the first time. I had joint pain and tenderness and ended up breaking out with leukocytoclastic vasculitis - basically if you look it up its just plain nasty. I had that for a few months until they realized that it flare up about a week after I started my months worth of levaquin, would clear up a week into my TOBI dosage and then would come back again with Levaquin. I haven't taken it since, that was 10 years ago. I can take Cipro without problems though and use that now as my first go abx when I have issues.

I had similar problems on Levaquin. Joint pain -- I threw out my neck just from a simple motion and was crying from the pain. Also, hives everywhere.

But so far, I've been fine with Cipro. I stay away from Levquin though -- it's the only ABX I've ever had a real problem with.

I had lots of trouble with joint pain from levaquin and cipro. I hadn't had to do IVs yet at the time and was trying to avoid it, so my doctor let me keep taking the quinolone drugs as long as I could live with the joint pain. It did get quite bad but always went away after a few weeks off the meds.

I eventually gave it up and went with IVs; however, we would still use levaquin or cipro periodically until I developed tendonitis in my ankle from it. The doctor would not let me continue it with the tendon problems as that can cause lasting damage. One thing to consider if you just choose to deal with the joint pain--I believe the tendon problem didn't get noticed because I assumed it was just more joint pain. It was probably fortunate my tendon didn't actually rupture.

Hope you feel better soon!

My joint pain is finally improving. Hoping that it totally resolves soon. I will not be using Levaquin again unless it is my only option. Thanks for all of your responses.
