Problems with Levaquin

Has anyone ever had problems taking Levaquin? I have taken it several times over the years and the only side effect that was bothersome was insomnia. However, I just finished a 14 day dose and every joint in my body aches. It started in my shoulders and I dismissed it as pain from exercising. Then it was my elbows and then my hips. Since my mother has rheumatoid arthritis I started thinking perhaps I was developing it as well. Today I could barely get out of bed due to the pain in my joints--my whole body. Upon doing some research I discovered that this can be caused by the Levaquin. And even worse it sometimes doesn't go away.
Anyone else have problems? Any suggestions for relief of the pain? Does it go away?

I took it for years for sinus problems then abt 2 years ago broke out with hives, have not used it since, but still use cipro which I think is in the same family, and have no problems? go figure. Pat-55/CF

I personally have not had problems, but my friend had the same joint issues when she was on it. She said she was literally crawling around the house because she hurt so bad.

Not sure what you can do other than switch to something else.

i've had problems with levaquin as well ..my knees would swell and i also had an allergic reaction, i started getting little itchy spots all over my body and my lips plumped ..when my knees swelled the doctor honestly said because i was on the med nothing would make the swelling go down...umm the only thing for joint problems would be tylenol ibuprofen..something like that because i also have osteoprosis and when the levaquin made my knees swell they were throbbing soo bad i could barely walk.....i hope you can find relief soon..

I think that it might be a common thing will all antibiotics. I recently had the same issue with Bactrim, which I have taken plenty of times with only nausea as a main issue, but this last time I had severe body pains... I mean muscles, joints and tendons. Once I was off for even just one day, the soreness did go away and was gone completely after about 2 days.

I was also worried b/c I looked online and saw that other people's symptoms didnt go away upon discontinuing the antibiotic either, but mine did, and I think I took it longer than most of the people online haha.

I took lots of ibuprofen and took lots of baths.

Also the most common side effect with Levaquin and Cipro since they are in the same family, is tendon pain and weakness, so I am always being careful of those so they dont rupture.

Good luck, I imagine (and hope) it will cease once you are off the meds.

The only reaction I've ever had to an abx was to levaquin. It was terrible.

It made my achilis tendon became really sore, insomnia, and my stomach was in pain.

When I told my doc about these side effects, they had me switch to another abx immediately. Apparently these side effects, if gone on for too long, can have longer lasting effects.

I will never take Levaquin again <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I had horrible joint pain and insomnia from levaquin so you're not alone! I don't take it anymore. It took a couple weeks for the symptoms to go away completely after I stopped taking it but they did eventually stop...
