Jmiller, I am really interested in hearing how you do once you start this treatment. I feel that I may be in the same boat and would like to share this information, and hopefully your success, with my doctor. Please keep us posted!

I'm on the pill and it's called Yasmin. Was put on it as they think it might help me and other CF girls (don't ask me the in's and out's of it. Just wanted you to know I wasn't running around, doing things I really shouldn't be doing at 15! I get some weird looks when I say I''m on it...!)It's not the mini pill-another kind. I cough up blood sometimes which has only started in maybe the past three-four months. The amount I cough up might be the area of your palm, and I know from a friend of mine that has that hemoptysis, as she delicately put it, 'looks like she's been attacked by Freddy Krueger', so maybe I just burst blood vessels when it happens to me. Since going on the pill, the blood hasn't gone but is less. I seem to cough up less blood every time. Today, I coughed up some blood (just one cough) and then it didn't happen again, so yay!
Wish you all the best,
Keely, 15.

hi jackie!! so this message was originally in response to your private message to me, but since i saw your post i thought perhaps my private messagedidnt go through back to you. plus i thought this info would help other hemoptysis suffers. just a brief on my past for ones that have not read myposts in the past. i have struggled with hemoptysis for 10+ years until just recently. i have gone 2 years with essentially no major bleed. this was almost a monthly occurance for me for years and years. so badly that it would land me in the ICU everytime. i have had many bronchial artery embolizations due to these major bleeds as well. almost ALWAYS coordinating with my cyle or any hormone fluctuation!

i have not been on here in a while due to me being really sick. butNO bleeds in one whole year!( and only one real bleedin 2 years!!!)the 11 month straight no bleeding was awesome, although i did have a bleed a couple weeks after posting no bleeds in 11 months ,(booo) but it was mild and stopped very quickly with vitamin k...and from then on it has been a year that i have had a major bleed. i have hada couplebleeds that were only dime size, which is great in comparison to my cup fulls in the past. so now i have added estrogen back into my birthcontrol, rather thandoing progesterone only. the reason we did progesterone only pill, was that was the most effective way to shut down ovaries and prevent me from havingperiods, then we gradually lowered the progesteron from a crazy high dose to an average dose, still no break through periods occured, so thenwe slowly added back estrogen. my doctor wanted me to have some estrogen because of the side effects of progesterone alone without estrogen causes( night sweats, labido issues, etc..) so the main goal we were trying to reach was no fluctuation in hormones to allow the ovaries to ovulate and then allow a period to occur. so he wanted to eventually get me to the point where i have both estrogen and progesterone, but still no periods. so we have accomplished this by slowly reducing high high high doses of progesterone to a lower dose, then toan average birthcontrol dose, to now abirth control with low estrogen. i take loestrin (it is low in estrogen, obviosly by the name!!) haha! and i take itcontinuously through when my cycle is supposed to occur. kinda like "seasonel" birthcontrol. only you dont EVER give your body a week to have a period. so far so good!! i have been on the loestrin for 5 months and have not had a period in 2 years. Also i have found a miracle it seems, in my life, and it sounds too simple to be this good... but high dosedViatmin k from the viatamin shoppe has been the best thing i have ever purchased. it stops the bleeds in their track!! i asked forthe Vitamin k injectionat the hospital after 5 days of continuous bad bleeds and aFAILEDbronchial artery embolization thatDID NOTwork (this was ab 3 years ago) and it stopped it!!! within an hour i had no more bleeding what so ever!! so i tried this out and from then on that has been what has stopped the bleeds from becoming massive or even just moderate. it literally has been a blessing to come across. i usually think unless it is some invasive medicine it wont work, lol but i had heard about it on this site so i tried it.i take Vitamin K2 from the vitamin shop, but you could get it at any health relatedstore, and it is one5 mg tablet every day for 3 days to make sure the bleeding is good and gone. and that dosageis what my docs have recommended as well. i hope this can help you, because i trully understand your situation!!! there is nothing worse than hemoptysis!! i have been sick lately, due to psuedomonas, its is crazy i have felt worse having grown this than any of my other bugs, i just cant seem to keep it at bay. any suggestions, i am starting ivs and steroids tom. after just having got off of them 2 weeks ago. errr. But hey i am thakful for no bleeds though!!!

Mallory - great info, thanks. Hope you feel better soon. Cutting out sugar (anything "white" in your diet) may help your PA. Do you mind if I ask where you live? And which doc has been helping you with your BC? It's so impossible to find a doc, even a gyn, that gets all of these women hormonal issues and CF. I'm nearing the point where I will fly anywhere just to talk to a doc who actually has a brain! Thanks

Hi, I didn't get dxd till after all four of my sons had been born & wasn't having hemoptysis at that time. I did however feel wonderful (with my GI issues) during pregnancy & always thought that there had to be a reason for that.. joni
