My daughter's first elastase was at 60 when she was first diagnosed as a baby. her symptoms were consistent with PI and she was put on enzymes. A year or so later when we repeated it, it was 449. She was taken off enzymes and her stools are fine.
I read here on the forum that the pancreatic status can change when they are very young before stabilizing.
Basically from what I read a person without cf has fecal elastase >500, anything below 200 is considered PI, between 200 and 500 is PS and theoretically should not require enzymes.
If your son has PI symptoms like you describe, I would not want to take him off the enzymes (that is just IMHO).
