I always wondered if it was in DS' sinuses, as he never really had symptoms (cough) and they always had to do a throat culture as he never coughed anything up. He DID usually have a stuffy nose though.

I got the same news today also, after my daughter having an extremely rough 2 weeks. We have cultered it twice before, once when she was 1, and then again once when she was 3. It only took one round on cipro and tobi and we never saw it again. I've never seen her have the issues before though as she does now. She started with what seemed a cold, turned into fever, extremely productive cough, chest pain (and asking to go to hospital), bloody sputum, etc. We got into clinic for a culture a week after it started, and today has been another week and finally got results. I am so frustrated. Her fever has also decided to rear again, so we will be contacting them again tomorrow. She is starting tobi for 28 days tomorrow. I wonder if it could be something else mixed it with it.

I really did not know that this is something that you could completely erradicate.

I have cultured it off and on for almost 15 years...and I have been on Tobi 28 on/28 off since it came out. I also take 500mg of zithromax on MWF's to help control it.

My doctor explains it as "mowing the grass". Everytime you treat it...you knock it down some, but it will more than likely grow right back and will need to mow (ABX) again.

My understanding is that they talk about eradication only in the beginning, when it still has not colonized. My dd had a very small colony when she was 18 m/o, and it disappeared after the first round of Tobi/Cipro (we did 3 round in total) and has not showed up since.
