What are others using as pseudomonas maintaince? I have cultured it off and on for a coupe of years and my doctor is still trying to eradicate it however, I am thinking that I will eventually need to just use maintaince treatment.

I wonder why someone out there hasnt tried to inhale a ton of like high intensity UV lights on christmas light strings? Seems that could do something, if you could survive...Well it would do something anyways regardless if you survived or not.

You can't eradicate pseudo completly once you've started culturing it on a regular basis. I'm on TOBI one month on, one month off, as well as 2 weeks of cipro when I am actually culturing. I don't culture pseudo unless I'm sick.

I am on Colistin nebs for that, twice a day. Doesn't have to be one month on, one off. And it helps. When i don't do them for a few days i notice it emediately.

I tend to grow out pseudo and the cepacia, but the docs have me on the TOBI every other month deal, helps tremendously with the PA and I think to some extent the cepacia, it always seems that the sputum samples don't show as high a concentration of cepacia when I am on that stuff, but it is always there. I cultured Psuedo for probably about 15-18 years. I used TOBI when I was in H.S. but had a hard time with it - it caused me to cough up blood, so they took me off of it. Nothing I was on was ever able to eradicate it til this past summer when my doc brought up me trying TOBI again just to see if it helped me in any way or if it was still causing me problems. I used it for one month problem free - I had a culture done and the Psuedo was gone. I have since had a few cultures and it has not been back as of yet. I am sure eventually it will find its way back to me, but for now I am worrying about the MRSA that I grow.

In the past I had been treated with Cipro when I was sick or had a flare-up. They also had me on a treatment plan of TOBI (it did't do much the first few times I was on it for whatever reason) every other month and on the off months I would take Levaquin. I did that till I developed an allergy to Levaquin.

It seems to me that pseudo never goes away - you can't eradicate it once you've got it. It does however go dormant every once and awhile and you may not culture it every time you are sick. I have had psuedo for 18 years now, and sometimes I will get cultures that do not have pseudo. That is simply because it has gone dormant.
