Pseudomonas

I spoke to our clinic nurse today and feel much more reassured. She also briefly talked to me about a pseudomonas vaccine. Has anyone tried this or heard anything about it?

I am an Australian mother of a 4yo girl with CF. She has just tested positively for pseudomonas for the second time this year. I feel frazzled as well.

I want more information about where pseudomonas breeds, how to prevent it etc, and stumbled across this site while searching the Internet with no luck. I know the usual, like sinks etc and that it is in water, dirt. Is it airborn?? I didn't think so.

Can you carry it in the house on shoes etc. I am a real clean freak in the house, and she still has it. I realise that I can't control her environment outside the house, and most people I observe are not hygienic at all!!! So, am I just wasting my time and causing myself anxiety??

My daughter first cultured it when she was only 4 months....I was a nervous reck! I thought, ok, my daughter has the worst of CF, but even though she has cultured many more times, she is doing awesome! She is now 4 years old and has more energy than any other 4 year old I know. Just keep doing what the docs say to do and don't ever give up hope! I truly believe that our kids will live to find a cure...they are so young and look at what has already been done! Please keep hope and faith!

Many years ago, when CF kids were cultured with pseudomonas, parents were told to start planning a funeral. BOY has that changed over the years. Now, it is not a big deal. Every kid, at some point, gets it. Throw away your bath "poofies". Pseudomonas loves those things. Anywhere there is warmth or moisture, it grows, so just keep a reasonably clean house and you should be okay. You won't be able to keep it away forever. ;o)
