pseudomonas

this might sounds really stupid because every one might know a lot more about cf than me but when i posted about the "steam room" some one mentioned the bug "pseudomonas"
i have heard of this bug but dont no how "bad" it is to get or the effects it might have on any one. it came as a concern to me that some one mentioned it could be a breeding ground ( or along that line of words) for the bug ( in the steamin room). i take it this is a bug to look out for? to be honest i dont even know what bug i am growing, i just kinda do as i am told medication wise and take every thing i am told to, i know this might be a stupid thing and i should get a bit more information about every thing ( and i will) but it hasnt really been a concern to me. but i am just wondering if any one ( comments welcome) could explain to me about this bug. i just thoght that the steamin room was kinda relaxin after the gym but... it is obviously not worth going to if this is can put me at such a high risk, any experiences would be good as well as i could try and understand what can happen!

cheers every one dave.

I'm too tired now and have to go to bed, but i'm sure tons of others on here will infor you about pseudo. You probably already have it, if not several different strains. It's not the end of your world, especially if you do what you need to do to control it.

To be honest, i have always been a little bit like that, not focusing too much on the bugs i have, like so many people do.. and would just do the treatmens.. but as far as what you're asking i can say that it is very common for us to get pseudomonas, i believe everybody will get them eventually, if they dont already have it. Dont worry too much about it, its part of it .. sometimes asking the doctor too much about this can get you to worry too much.. try to focus on how you feel. Sometimes that's a better way to go, instead of obssessing over "numbers" and test results. Have a nice day

What is the best way of preventing "pseudomonas", if it can be prevented!

Does anyone have any ideas or advice?

About the only way to possibly prevent it would be to live in a sterile bubble environment and never leave it and never have any human contact, and then you would still probably get it. It's all about managing it after you have it, because preventing it would be pretty much impossible.

I agree with Sean ..... it's out there and you'll pick it up probably sooner rather than later.

I'm 28 and had it for about 15 years - hasn't caused me any major probs. I work hard at keeping well. Preparing for my another 10k race at the moment and working on a time of around 50 minutes.

Not too shabby

I've had pseudo for about 18 years now, and it really hasn't caused a problem at all. I've only ever been in hospital once for it. Its all about being diligent with your treatment, and taking the best care possible.

Everyone is different. It all depends on how your body reacts to certain bugs, etc. NOrmally pseudo is treated with TOBI and Cipro, along with a few variations that I'm sure other people will let you know about. I'm on TOBI one month on, one month off to control it, and then when I have a flareup I'm on 2 weeks of Cipro or Levequin. On the occasion I will be put on inhaled Colymycin.
