pulled muscles in chest

Hi everyone,

Does anyone have problems with pulled muscles in the chest? I have had an ongoing problem lately with a muscle in the front of my chest that I keep constantly hurting. I was up for hours last night trying to get comfortable. I seem to pull the muscle at night, and I'm almost thinking it's because of night-time coughing. I can't really move any part of my body because it causes that muscle to hurt, especially coughing. I've taken some Tylenol and it has helped, but it's still killing me.

Anyone else with this problem or am I just strange?

I have had this problem before. Just a few weeks ago actually. I had to take Percocet for it because after transplant you aren't allowed to take Nsaids including Ibuprofen. And Tylenol alone definitely didn't help. I'd reccommend seeing your dr and trying to get a muscle relaxant because even the percocet didn't make the pain go away all that well. Also, I think I got it from the coughing because I had gotten a lung infection at this time and was coughing a ton!

Hope you can get something that helps!

Leah, I have that problem from time to time. My dr. gave me samples and a prescription for Voltaren Gel and it works wonderfully! It's a topical ibuprofen-type gel and really has made a difference. You just apply it and rub it over the spot that is hurting. Ask your dr. for some.

I have had that happening for years.
Partly from lifting weights and hard coughs.

I try to Hold pressure on it when it sore
when I cough and sometimes put a heating pad on it
to take the soreness out re leaving the pain.

If you get a heating pad, get one that has a Auto Shut off.
I got mine from wal-mart for 20 bucks. it shuts off after 2 hrs.

Good luck..

Ugh yes I know what you mean. I try to do a lot of chest stretches, and that seems to help with the tightness, because I hit therapy HARD during treatments. I'm surprised it doesn't happen to me all the time.

Thanks everyone for the advice and experiences. Luckily my chest feels better today, but I know it's only a matter of time before I pull it again. But it's good to know that I'm not the only one that experiences this, so thanks!
