pulmicort

I have been using prednisone -- dosage 30 mgs. every other day for years and actually makes me a little nervous because I have been taking it for so long. I used it as an anti inflammatory. The clinic I go to has several cf doctors -- some say pulmicort is fine, some say no. So I am looking for personal experiences with others that use an antiinflammatory. Has anyone used pulmicort and if so what has your experience been. What else is being used with good results?

Prednisone is POISONOUS EVIL CRAP. It gave me diabetes and severe osteoporosis (I favor the medical school of thought which only advises oral corticosteroids--with extreme reservations, at the lowest possible doses, for the shortest possible periods--when the alternative is even worse than their side effects.)

My docs advised me to use Flovent (budenoside, IIRC) instead of Pulmicort. I'm not sure about their rationale, but they argue it's more effective, according to their studies. It might only apply to my specific situation, though.

Pulmicort is pretty much the standard of what they prescribe at all the places I've been treated, usually prescribed along with Bricanyl. I am meant to take Pulmicort but it makes my throat unbearably sore and dry so I'm naughty and don't use it. But, most CFers here do take it without too much hassle I think.

I was prescribed Pulmicort awhile back, but only started using it this year after a severe airway shutdown. I dont have any affects from it that I can tell so if there is any, they are pretty suttle. I also feel a difference if I miss a dose so I definitely know its working. I had been on iv/oral steroids for a short period when my airways closed down & fortunately was able to get off of them because my sugars went haywire. My airways are not back to baseline yet, but hopefully with time things will fall into place.

I've been on Pulmicort for about 3 years with good results. Right now I use the Turbohaler but have also used the respules. Before pulmicort I used Flovent, didn't have good results with that and before that Azmacort
