He has not been able to get the vest yet, our clinic generally doesn't start them until they are 2 years old. So another 6 months of manual PT
I gave him his first treatment last night and it went a lot better then we expected. He sat on my lap and I held the mask for the entire treatment... I guess sometimes our kids can surprise us! Thanks for the info...

Glad to hear it went well.

In our case it got easier each time. Make it routine and as he gets older let him do something special while doing treatments. Avery either watches videos, plays her v-smile video game or colors. I bought her a little lap desk she can sit over her lap while doing treatments. She always sits in the same spot for treatments (nebs and vest. They are always the first and last thing she does every day. It is funny cause she has been doing it so long she doesn't know the difference. She never complains or tries to get out of it.

Take care.

Our son is 15 and was in the hospital for the first time in 2007. He started Pulmozyme at that time. He also started using Saline. I wanted to let the parents with young children know that routine plays a big part in treatments. Our son is very good about doing what he's supposed to but it's a lot easier to get them into a routine when they're young. Being 15 and just starting nebs is harder because he knew what it was like when he didn't need to do it. Also for anyone having trouble with getting the "junk" out of their lungs. Doing their vest while doing the saline worked wonders for him!!! It really gets him coughing and all that junk gets out of there! After doing the vest and saline together for about 2 months his lung function went back up 30%. It was amazing!!

My daughter (5.5 wcf) did her first nebs at 14 months. She loved sitting in her baby swing (not turned on) and watching shows, reading books, having tickeling sessions, etc while doing nebs. She sat in that swing for nebs until she was almost 2.5 years old bc she liked it so well and it made nebs really easy. Of course, she was past the weight limit on the swing by then but it didn't really matter since it wasn't turned on.
