Question about Aspergillus/ABPA

I've been trying to find info on line, but I'm not having much luck. I'll try to keep this as short as possible.

What kind of reaction do people with CF usually have if they have ABPA? Is it just breathing issues or do you also have "allergy" type symptoms? I had an episode back in April where I started off with itching and I got welts/hives all over. My breathing was effected somewhat, but not too bad. It lasted for several days (was put on Prednisone). We never could come up with a reason/cause for this to happen. I've never had an allergic reaction like this to anything. I was going to have a blood test done, but the hospital lost the order (that's another story). I haven't yet been able to go back and get it done.

My breathing hasn't been good lately, and there have been several days where I felt like I had no energy at all. All I wanted to do was just sit down and do nothing.

I guess I'm just wanting to know (especially those of you who have ABPA), what symptoms do you have and do you also have to culture Aspergillus Fumigatus? My last culture was just Aspergillus (no Fumigatus)? Thanks!

I have severe allergies, postiive reaction to everything tested for, ABPA, and candida overgrowth syndrome, all whcih cause issues such as you described. You can go to my blog and search for candida and ABPA and let me know if you have any questions. If you have aspergillus in culture they shoudl have run an IGE, what was your number?

Sorry for a dumb question, but what is an IGE? I cultured aspergillus a year or so ago, but doctor did not treat it w/ anything b/c I was not having symptoms. Wondering if I should ask about an IGE when I go back to my doc on Wed.

Thanks <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

An IgE test is an immunoglobulin blood test. It is used a lot to help identify specific allergies. It basically identifies antibodies that are connected with an allergic reaction. It is one of the things docs look at to see if we are reacting to a virus like Aspergillus.
