Question About Bowel Movements??

My son is having some different looking bowels movements than he normally does. They sink but have the orange greasy stuff floating on top. So if it sinks but is oily what does that mean? I have been adding more butter and oil to his foods in hopes of him putting on some more weight. I thought if it sunk than that meant that he was absorbing but with the oil there I don't know. Any help would be appreciated. By the way....he currently takes three Creon 10 with meals and two with snacks. Thanks

Ah yes, the orange greasy stuff. The joys indeed! Our daughter's were like that constantly just before diagnosis. She recently had poor weight gain and the ocassional grease returning, so the doctor upped her enzymes. Also now that we are adding cream to her milk we make sure we dose accordingly.

My opinion is that the grease means he is not absorbing everything and possibly his enzymes need to be adjusted, so I would ask your doctor.

My son is 6 and his do that sometimes too...sink but still have the orange grease. It is usually when he eats a really fatty meal. We adjust his enzymes according to how much he eats, but he does have a maximum they want him to take. His nutritionist said he can't have more than 2.5 Creon 10s due to his weight/bmi so sometimes we just have to accept the extra grease. He still seems to gain weight though.

The orange stuff is the butter & oil you're adding to his food in a partial or completely undigested state, IMO.

I try not to eat a lot of grease, but anytime I do eat greasy foods (i.e. fried chicken, pepperoni pizza, etc) and forget to take my enzymes, I can tell a few hours later from the orange stuff and often-times the burning (down there) that comes with passing it! Sorry if TMI<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border="0">

Just a side note---anytime I am on Cipro, it will do a number on my stomach/bowels too.
