question about CFRD

I have had the "spots" thing happen a few times in my 28 years of being diabetic. I have a had a lot of odd things happen. One being, i get really really thirsty sometimes when my blood sugar drops ( kind of odd).
If my blood sugar drops while i am sleeping i dream of trying to get something to eat and no-one will let me, i usually wake up right after the dream and check my blood sugar and its been low every time i've had that kind of dream.
Sometimes when my blood sugar gets really low i get these wierd weakness feelings in my hands and arms and they may twitch a time or two.
Sometimes i get no symptoms with lowered blood sugar at all. One time when i was in the hospital about 6 years ago or so i told the burse to check my bloodsugar because i suspected it might be low, she did and it was 19 ! I had no shaking, no dizziness, no clue other than i was hungry, but im always hungry. When my Dr. came in later that day he said he cannot believe i was even able to speak normally with a blood sugar that low.
I have read that hypoglycemia can be a fore-runner to diabetes, dont know if it is accurate but either way, keep checking those blood sugars, and try to eat a small meal( sandwich etc.) with the juice, soda, candy or whatever you take to alleviate the low blood sugar. It will help your blood sugar not to drop too soon after. Good luck

From the people I've spoken to, this is a very common occurrence. I know when my blood sugar drops when I am sleeping, I too have dreams about being all weak and defenseless. At this time I usually wake up and solvent the low, but since I do not take any Lantus anymore, I very rarely get any lows.
But to the OP, I don't know if hypoglycemia is a sure-fire red flag for CFRD. I mean, generally it is, but everyone is different. What anti-biotics are you on? Some can only be mixed with dextrose, but that would make your sugar go high. Be sure to research all of them and note all the side-effects of each. Or did this happen before you began your course of IV antibiotics? I know years before I was diagnosed with CFRD, I would get really weak and hungry on occasion.

Thanks everyone. I have been hypoglycemic prone for many years. I had a glucose tolerance test and everything was fine, but it's been a few years. Maybe I should schedule another one. I figured that the stress of being on IVs might have been a factor. As I said, it happens the most when I am sick or stressed. My sugars drop for a week or so, daily and then nothing for a month. The lowest my blood sugar has been is 55. Lucky I lived at home and mom was around. I couldnt get up, I used my cell phone to call the house and asked her to bring me some OJ. When it does drop I try to something with sugar and protein like nabs w/ peanut butter and juice. I try not to rely on candy to bring it up. My Drs are aware of the hypoglycemic issue, but just want me to watch it. Anyway, I'm gonna try to keep a log and see just how often it happens. I will let my CF dr know about this recent episode. Thanks again for your help. I'll let you know how it goes.

CF Foundation protocol is to have an OGTT every year.

I get hypo often if I don't eat, but OGTT always turns out really normal.

But def get the test.... once a year per CFF recommendations
