I believe at your age - symptoms or not - you should be tested using the 2 hour glucose tolerance test. I believe the CFF suggests anyone over the age of 14 get it annually. Either way it would be good to have a baseline pre-pregnancy since as early as 6 weeks (when many people only learn they are pregnant) your sugars can wreak havic on your system. So far - before pregnancy and at 8 weeks - I am not CFRD although I have been advised to lay off of white, refined sugar somewhat (eat it with meals not as a snack) b/c evidently my body takes longer than it should to process the sugar out of my blood.

I had to ask for my pre-pregnancy 2 hr. OGTT. You should too! (If you want to know where you stand.)

Very true. I was diagnosed at first by a 2 hour glucose tolerance test. After that came up positive, I was followed only by A1C testing.

A glucose tolerance test would be the first step.

Ok, now I'm not pregnant, nor am I planning to be any time soon but I was just diagnosed w/CFRD in october. While in the hospital my blood sugar was running in and around the 500's. Before I went in I kept getting hot flashes and was just getting so worn out and tired REALLY easily...I'm talking needing a three hour nap after working for just four hours. I thought it was because of infection but once they got my sugars down I felt sooo much better. Keep those symptoms in mind, if you find yourself more easily fatigued than usual or you can't quench your thirst, have your doc check things out just to be sure.
