Question about Treating Depression in CF and CFRD.

I have been depressed for some time now... I am finally going to tell my cf doctor about it.
The thing is I have a high liver count and I read on the Prozac and Zoloft and just about any other Anti-Depressent medicine websites that using these medicines in people with liver disease or disorder can be dangerous.
SO what in the heck could I do about it?
I dont want to risk killing my liver but I also dont want to feel this way.
Its like im screwed.....

Has anyone here with liver problems used these meds and if so did you CHECK into this?
It sounds pretty serious and I was wondering what I should do.

There are a lot of meds out there to treat depression. Surely, one would be available for you with minimal side effects to liver.
Your CF Dr or the one he refers you to should be able to help w/ that. Good for you, seeking help. You'll be glad you did!<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

hang in there buddy, i'm sure your doc with find something for you. i'm on zoloft but i know thats not for everyone. sometimes all you need is a change of diet to help give you a bit of a pick me up. ask your doc anyways. hope all goes well

I would seriously look into magnesium supplementation. Supposedly a lack of magnesium can cause CFers to be sick and can cause depression in anyone.

I've been on Celexa for about 5 years now and have only good things to say about it, no negative side effects.... but then I do not have problems with my liver so be sure to ask your doc about using it. Also Lexapro has been given high marks.

I'm on celexa for over 1 year. I have not had any negative side effects. I find it great.

Hey 1st poster. I am a 24/m w/CF and I also have liver and kidney issues due to CF.(serosis SP?) I took celexa and it didn't seem to help and now I take Welbutrin XL and I love it. It has minimum side effects on the liver. Ask your Doc about it. Keep your head up.
