Question about tune-ups

personally I think a 'routine tune-up' is a good concept it doesn't allow you to fall sick to the point where a tune up is needed. granted, you can still fall sick to that point after a routine-tuneup but the odds are in your favor. If it's a matter of doing a routine tune-up I'd go for it. I'd rather do routine tune-ups than fall so ill and THEN go in.

Thanks. What I'm dealing with is a 17 year old teenager. I feel he knows his body better than anyone else and is old enough to make this decision. Dr is really wanting him to have the IV's. I'm seeing signs he needs one.....Oh what to do??? I posted on the adult board because so many on the family board have just young children. I was wanting imput from those who had been there.

I use to wait as a child and teen to go in for the tune up til I was super sick and then as an adult over the last several plus years I have been going in the fall for a tuneup to gear up for winter. Not sure if this is soley the reason for not getting colds and flus and just dealing with the normal CF stuff but I do not get those and I find it easier on my body to not go in when I am so incredibly down and try to get up from that and then up again to baseline. easier on my physically and mentally to not go in when super sick. I also do not work anymore so not sure if the lack of being around people has helped to stay healthy too. I am super compliant but now my PFT has dropped to the 57% which I have never been that low in FOREVER usually in the 65-68% so CF is a progressive disease no matter what you do and I think you need to be aggressive!

Just my opinion

I end up going once a year. But these doctors now are 'hospitalization happy'.
& I used to be able to go in for maybe 3 days and get the PIC line then go home, but since the reason of my hospitalizations is the fact that I don't do breathing treatments, I have to be in a full two weeks.
