Any updates on this, Lindsay? I'm nocf, but am very interested in how others grapple with their own cases, and having cf on top of depression gives it an interesting clinical spin, even if I can't clinically relate.

I hope you're reclaiming your life in good fashion. Depression is a gorilla.

Lindsay,
I'm sorry you have been having such a hard time lately! i have been struggling with depression off and on for years. My advice is to find a doctor you feel comfortable talking to. My CF specialist is not the easiest guy to talk to, so I used to go to another local doc for my emotional issues. Some therapy or counseling might also be a good idea.
The longer you try to ignore it the worse it can get. I was hospitalized several times for depression because I let it stew and progress to self-mutilation.
I never knew how bad I felt until I gave myself the opportunities needed to get better. Good luck with everything!

Call your doc and see if this is something they are comfortable dealing with, some docs might prefer to send you to a therapist of psychiatrist who's is more familiar with depression. When you have an appointment (with whoever) bring in a list of your symptoms. Be very specific, even if you don't think its related to depression.

My depression symptoms included insomnia, lack of interest in normal activities, poor concentration, mood swings, and crying spells. Other symptoms can include sleeping too much, appetite changes, and lack of interest in sex just to name a few.

There are hundres of antidepressants out there that can help. Just remember that it might take a few tried to find one that works for you. I am on my 5th antidepressant but I finally found something that helps me sleep, improves my mood and helps my chronic pain (nortryptiline).

Depression is very common, so don't feel like a failure. CFers have a lot to deal with and you're a mom too! Its worth giving the meds a shot, once you find one that works its so good to feel like yourself again!
