question for Don

Hi Don - In your research, have you noticed any common replies for itchy skin? I noticed on the cf parents message board a discussion regarding such. I seem to remember other posts regarding itching when doing vest treatments. I know my son sometime is very itchy. I always attributed it to the extra salt from his skin. Just curious? You know kind of like the pruny hands. Hope all is well!!Jo Ann

While you wait to hear from Don, I would like to reply. I also have itchy skin. Granted I get it while doing the vest/clapping, but I also have it periodically when not doing treatments. I believe (only guessing of course) that it has to do with the salt from when we sweat. I believe if we allow it to sit on our skin that it dries it out & then if we use soap when bathing, but dont replenish the moisture by using some type of lotion etc that it will cause itching. Maybe the skin wont be so dry that we look like an alligator, but I am sure its dry. Mine isnt constant, but coincides with sweating etc. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-cool.gif" border="0">

Thank you for your reply. That was my thought also. I know for my son it is usually his back and sometimes his legs when he sleeps. Maybe it could be another one of the things that could be added to the list of how CF may present itself. Thanks again!

Hi,Good information. Madison does not itch that much but we fight ezema (sp?) Dry skin all the time. She has been put on several steroid skin creams. No one mentioned skin in their replies but I suspect something may be there.I may specifically ask this question along with another.I am finding things in patterns that I would have never expected. It is pretty remarkable. I will give the details later.Don

Ok i have a question about dry itchy skin. What about dry patches? I have them on the backs of my legs and on my upper arms. They don't itch much as long as i have lotion. And its not eczema ( i don't think cus its not flaky)But the patches don't go away, they may get smaller or if they do go away they come back. There has been mention that girls/women with cf have more yeast infections, but thats not always in that one "area" isn't yeast infections also on the body(skin) because lack of that good bacteria or something. I really don't ahve problems with that "area" with yeats infections. So here is my question, could some of our itchy dry skin be party to blame on a skin type yeast infection and maybe with the added salt issue? I don't know if i have my info right but just owndering. Can someone clear this up for me?

Hi - Jason had similar patches on his face, arms and mostly legs. We used a exema type cream from the dr. and they cleared up. I think it is interesting. Maybe Don will find out with his research if there is a common link. Jason's dry patches are more frequent in the summer and when swimming. Thanks for the reply and Take care!Jo Ann
