Hi Nicole,
Stay home!! I live in LA. I am in the house with air filters going. Yesterday, I could see smoke everwhere, even in the direction of the beach. My boyfriend said the smoke smell was extremely strong. Ash is covering everything. Knotts Berry Farm is very near where some large fires are still going.
Today there is the "after fire" smell where I live, while other places still smell of smoke. Other neighborhoods still have fires burning. The problem with these fires is that when entire neighborhoods go up, all kinds of things burn including metals releasing horiible toxins and particulates in the air. According to the news here, the particulates are going to be in the air for months.
What will help some, is if we get some good rain. That is just not happening any time soon.
I wouldn't want to risk lung damage. To be on the safe side, I would reschedule the trip for a few months from now, after fire season when we've had enough rain to clean up the air.
