We are heading to Knotts Berry on friday but with everything going on I was wondering if we should stay home and plan for another weekend. Is the air quality bad and is there alot of ash floating around.
Hope all of you living there are okay. Thanks for the input.

Hi Nicole!,

I live in Southern Cali (SD), always concerned about our air, I found a great website for info on air quality.

<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://airnow.gov/index.cfm?action=airnow.outlook
">http://airnow.gov/index.cfm?action=airnow.outlook
</a>
I looked this morning and areas of Orange County/LA County currently have "Action Days", meaning just that... take action or precautions. The two counties are currently listed as Moderate & Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (which we are). There is a forecast section, but it only provides info for the next 24 hours.

I would definetely not go this weekend and wait for the air quality to improve. I know it's a bummer, but it will be worth the wait and give you piece of mind. We went 2 weekends ago and had a blast! We rode every roller coaster!

Take care,<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Hi Nicole,

Stay home!! I live in LA. I am in the house with air filters going. Yesterday, I could see smoke everwhere, even in the direction of the beach. My boyfriend said the smoke smell was extremely strong. Ash is covering everything. Knotts Berry Farm is very near where some large fires are still going.

Today there is the "after fire" smell where I live, while other places still smell of smoke. Other neighborhoods still have fires burning. The problem with these fires is that when entire neighborhoods go up, all kinds of things burn including metals releasing horiible toxins and particulates in the air. According to the news here, the particulates are going to be in the air for months.

What will help some, is if we get some good rain. That is just not happening any time soon.

I wouldn't want to risk lung damage. To be on the safe side, I would reschedule the trip for a few months from now, after fire season when we've had enough rain to clean up the air.

This weekend my family was having a reunion of sorts up past Magic Mountain. It's about a 6 hour drive so we left a day early and planned to spend the night up in the city where my cousins live. Unfortunately, we never made it to my aunt's house. The 5 freeway and all connecting freeways were CLOSED because of the fires. There was so much smoke that we ended up turning around and driving home. Just from the little bit of smoke I was exposed to, I've felt sick all weekend. Even today I still have a headache and am coughing.

My advice is to avoid the the burn areas as long as posible.
