Question for those on oxygen at night

I was wanting to know how did you know that you needed oxygen while you slept? My current situation is that my sats are between 92-95% when I am up and about. I routinely wake up with headaches, that are of course worse when I sleep longer. They are not related to high blood sugars either because I always check to make sure. Some nights I will wake up several times, but not always because I am coughing my brains out. I mentioned the topic once to my docs about a year ago, but they did not seem concerned. Now I am to the point where I am just wondering. I of course do not want to do it, but I was still wondering what makes a person need it? Thank you for any feedback.

I just started using oxygen at night last week and my O2 stats were the same as yours. My transplant eval doctor suggested I do an overnight oximetery to see if I needed O2 at night. I had a headache everyonce in a while and didn't think I needed it but after wearing a pulse-ox overnight they saw that my stats were dropping into the 80s. I would push your docs to do the overnight oximetery if you feel you need it. I'm still getting use to it myself but I have noticed I feel better in the morning.

Ask no tell your doctor you want a sleep study done, I found that my insurance did not want to pay for oxygen at home without the study ,My daughters numbers are good when awake but as soon as she falls asleep her numbers drop to the mid to low 80.

I think most everyones sats drop some at night, so if you are seeing 92 during the day, you probably are dropping below 90 overnight for some period of time. Its important to figure out to what degree your stats are dropping at night.

Thank you for your response. I think I have been reluctant to push the matter because I just did not ever want to have to do it, but I need to know for sure. It is no fun feeling crummy almost everyday when you wake up and very rarely do I feel well rested.
