Question of salty food with sweat test?

Here is my long story to share!!!

I am a 20 year old mother who spent almost all of my childhood with recurrent bronchitis, always getting sick, and having a "sensitive stomach" as we called it. After becoming pregnant with my daughter around 18, my symptoms became unbearable- an got even worse after baby, and as time has gone on. I couldn't gain weight despite all of my healthy eatings (in fact, I lost weight and cant seem to put it back on), stomach bloated, diarrhea (constant) or extreme constipation, foul "bathroom" moments, immense fatigue, the worst constant stomach pain EVER, and bone/joint pain (perhaps because my symptoms have gone on for so long)? I thought I had celiac disease, so went on GF diet- and some symptoms improved. My digestive felt better, somewhat...but whenever I get sick it turns serious like bronchitis, and I feel like I'm constantly swallowing or coughing "funk" in my throat. Does any of this make sense?
My daughter started showing exact same symptoms at a year old- foul, pail, undigested looking BM's, immensely thin body but very bloated and distended stomach, big weight drop and having hard time gaining, pail skin tone and dark circles under her eyes, and recently- she has stopped being as active, and has taken to laying around all day (which is very bizarre for a toddler...and specially her, because she walked at 9 months!) We all thought she had celiac too- so both of us finally got tested, and both of us are negative for blood tests AND the genes!
Now her dr. is all about figuring out if CF. For some reason, it REALLY makes sense to me, and after reading more about it- I saw so much of us in everything CF. It's so scary, but I also want to know what is wrong- so I know how to make us feel better, or at least the things I should be trying to do.

MY Questions:
* Does this story sound legit, or familiar to any of you?
* The only symptom not adding up is the salty tasty skin- I don't think we taste all that salty? Is this normal? Although, haven't really asked anyone else to lick us!
; )
* If my daughter is eating salty foods of any sort- that wont mess up her sweat test, will it?

Most of what you describe in your daughter is very similar to what ours was doing, prior to her diagnosis at the age of 3. She had all of the symptoms you are describing but no one connected the dots.

The salty-tasting skin is not necessarily true in everyone, and I don't know about it messing up the sweat test.

Mostly I just wanted to say welcome, and I'm sorry for the possible diagnosis but wouldn't it be fabulous for you both to get the treatment you need.

Yes, I agree. Thank you for the warm welcome- and I do pray that (for better or worse) we at least figure out what we have, so that I can take action. I'll keep the board posted (her tests aren't until mid-October)...and I'll check in for anymore replies! Thanks

Hi, I hope that you can finally have some answers!

I can say that my tongue was not very valuable in trying to figure out if my son was too salty - I thought he tasted OK, but his sweat test came back at 96.

Best wishes to you!
