I have been having this problem for a few weeks, it's not getting any better and it actually seems to be happening more often.
I get light headed spells and feel nauseous. Its really bad when I wake up; but after I eat it will go away. (I know it sounds odd but a bagel w cream cheese is the best)
Anyway I'll eat and then feel fine for about an hour some days for 2, but then the light headedness comes back. Also I have moments where it gets so bad, if I don't eat, that I get a headache and start to panic. (like a panic attack)
My biggest problem is my CF Dr is out of the country and my primary is on vacation for 2 week. I called my primaries office and she said if I feel that bad to go to the urgent care center (kinda like an emergency room for non live threatening issues)
My friends who is taking RN classes asked about CFRD...I have no idea how I would even know if that's what it it! But I figured maybe some of you may be able to help. Does it sound like CFRD to you and if so what do you think I should do for the next week or so?

Oh and you can totally tell me if you think I'm being paranoid!

question

It does sound like CFRD or at the very least, hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) Do your hands tremble when you get that headache?

How are you sleeping lately? Try eating a decent sized snack (like a bowl of cereal) before going to bed and see if that helps when you wake up.

question

My mitochondrial mutations cause me to tremble and shake all of the time! I can never walk a straight line (God forbid I get pulled over!)

But I have noticed that when my head hurts I feel more unsteady than usual...(the feeling usually sticks around until a little while after I've eaten)

I'm going to try to eat a snack before bed and see if that helps. Thanks!

question

It does sound more like hypoglycemia- I'm going to say it's probably not CFRD, as that's a lack of insulin, which would cause high blood sugar rather than low. I'd agree with the snacking before bedtime. However, your bagel choice is not the best if it's hypoglycemia- those are complex carbs, and take longer to get into the blood stream and raise your blood sugar. You'd be better off drinking some kind of juice, because that gets into your system immediately.
