I would agree that both scenarios sound like depression however, it is all a matter of context. We all have bad days if it is an isolated scenario it's probably just one of those bad days. However, if it is a recurring feeling, thought, wish I would say it is indeed a case of depression.
Depression is not a bad thing in that we have to be ashamed to have these feelings. As someone mentioned they are caused by chemical imbalances that like any other illness need to be treated with medication. Unfortunately we do not always recognize this condition in ourselves and even when we do we are in such a downward spiral to punish ourselves more that we tend to ignore those around us that want to help.
(For anyone that may be down or depressed) Just remember as much as this sounds like BS things are not as bad as they seem and people out there love you and care about you. If you were not here or were never born the world would have been deprived of all the good things you have brought it. Things can and will get better and you will be able to see that with the right help, just allow those that care for you to help you.
