Hi everyone, I have a somewhat weird situation and was hoping to get some advice. My husband (27) has CF. He's pretty healthy so far, FEV1 >80 for the most part. He tends to ignore his health the way many men do, and I worry too much as a typical wife <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
He is a consultant and just started a new project for work. It means he has to travel to Minneapolis every week, flying out on Monday and back home on Thursday night. I'm sad about this because I miss him a lot. I'm also worried that the excess travel may affect his health - from exposure to bugs on the planes, messing up his exercise schedule, and just making him really tired overall. The other thing is his clinic visits. Here at home they have adult clinic only on Thursdays, and with his project he will only be home on Fridays. He already tends to put off his appointments and I'm worried he'll use this as an excuse to avoid going.
So that's where my question comes in. I read that New Yorker article awhile back about the bell curve, and I remember that Minneapolis is supposed to be the best CF center in the country. Since he is there every week for work now, do you think I should encourage him to switch his clinic appointments to the Minneapolis center? Does anyone here have experience with this clinic? Is it really as great as it's reputation makes it seem? I know it has a much higher life expectancy than the CF average, and I am all for anything that has the potential to extend my husband's life span. Plus it would be more convenient for him anyway due to his work schedule.
any thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks!
