Questions about "the Vest"

Hey there,

When I was first diagnosed I was lucky that my insurance bought me a VEST. The old, big, Hill-rom version, that you play with the dials and sit on the thingy to make it go. Sorry to say that I have always hated it. I never thought it did much besides make ne nauseated. I complained and was eventually sent, a short vest so my tummy doesn't get as shaken, only stired (ha ha)... only the front blows up and I still don't really get how this is helping. I stopped using it and it collected dust.

While in the hospital two weeks ago and faithfully using the dreaded vest, I learned that there are other versions of the vest. Surprise, surprise...

I was furtunate to be educated by one of you ( a big thank you). Unfortunatley, much of it seemed to go right over my head.

I have been lucky enopugh to have been "loaned" the incourage vest. I like it better because you hook yourself in, and press the quick start button. I like that I don't have to think about it. I can even take it at 60%, I guess this is good.

Any who... I am wondering... from you faithful vest users and vest lovers which version you have and why you like it. I guess you could say that I am doing some comparison shopping and would appreciate any insite and your oppinions. Thanks

Questions about

we had another thread on this.

respirtech has been shown to produce superior waves (increased sputum production) so on that basis alone, respirtech is my choice.

i also own a hillrom 104.

Questions about

My daughter has the Hill Rom 104, my son has the Respirtech.... even though I do not personally use either vest... I like the Respirtech vest better... it seems better built to me - the whole clamping hoses is much nicer, it just has an overall better build feel to it -- I like the shape better, the bag is better built with padding and I think it is quieter - but that I don't have actual proof of.... I also tend to believe the research information.... that the Respirtech may do you more good than the Hill Rom

Questions about

I use a Hill Rom 104 also but it's my little brother's while I'm away at school. He uses mine, which is the original vest about the size of a washer or dryer. I used to use the vest religiously but I've found that the Acapella is more effective for me - my docs said what ever is more convenient for me because of my busy schedule. I also didn't know there were different versions. Are all the versions made by the same company? So all of them don't have the hoses that you connect, some clamp? I guess I should go research the other versions. But the process to upgrade the vest takes so long so I just gave up on getting a newer one for myself.
