Questions...

Hi all!

I've got a couple of questions for you everyone. I've never really been around other CFer's and I've fortnuate enough to have "mild CF." I don't have all of the same health problems that other people have. Growing up (thankfully)my biggest issues was polyps. I've had a few lung infections, but nothing to serious, and I'm pancreatic sufficient.

When it comes to my health I never really know what is CF and what is just life in general. There are somethings that are obvious, but other's I just don't know. For example: I'll occasionally get chest pains, like someone's stabbing me. It doesn't last long, but it hurts. Is that just a part of life, or do other CFer's have this too? How do you know what is 'normal' and what is CF?

My other question was, is it possible to become pancreatic insufficient? Just wondering.

Thanks for your input! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

For me chest pains usually mean that I have a lung infection. If its happening when I am breathing then its usually pluralcy(sp?).

Hope you continue to have good Health.

Jackie, You are quite young and I would expect most 21 year olds with cf to have lung function in the mild range (above 75% FEV1). Any pain with your lungs I would definitely attribute to cf. Normal people don't have lung pain unless they have pneumonia. Do you know your FEV1? WHat are your mutations? Not that mutations dictate outcome..but there are some mutaions that a lifelong mild outcome is just not possible. Other mutations may offer a "possible" life long mild outcome but they are few and far between.

Could be a sign of lung infection, but I will throw in here that I sometimes have gas pains, which are usually under my ribs, and they are kind of a stabbing pain. They usually go away when I burp, pass gas, or move around.

It is possible that as time passes, you may become PI.
