Rash around my bottom/scrotum

I have been hospitalized and had a gtube placed which was painful this week. I havent been able to shower or properly cleanse myself due to pain from movement. I noticed two days ago some nasty funk I peeled from my scrotum. Now I am discharged and my scrotum is fine but I noticed a rash about an inch and a half to the side of my anus. I havent showered for 7 days and have sat in a hopital bed that was constantly moist from sweat.
Is there something I can do besides thoroughly cleanse myself which I have done now? Is there some over the counter product I should purchase, or will this now clear up? I would rather not have to deal with my doctor having to diagnose whatever it is if its something that can be taken care of myself.
Sorry for asking such a gross question, I just want to take care of this in case its serious.
thanks.

It's from not showering in the hospital. If you aren't going to shower at least wash your junk. It will continue to do this if you don't. So - in summary wash yo self.

dude you basically have diaper rash. if you can go nude. wash the affected area with warm soapy water every time you poop or pee and then pat dry. Use Desitin to create a moisture barrier.

I don't see anything wrong with this question. The nurses and doctors taking care of the OP should have ensured he didn't end up in this situation. Hygiene, fresh sheets, and changes in position should be monitored by nurses and doctors, not the patient who may be out of it from meds and in pain.

To the poster, you should get it checked out by a dr. It could be yeast or staph, which aren't covered by creams like Desitin.

OP I too am sorry about the immature/rude responses you have received. We talk about poop, puss from our lungs, blood, periods, seminal fluid (those who are male with CF are often infertile) on this site. I think anything pertaining to CF is fair game.

Hope you feel better soon! Again, I'm really embarrassed by juvenile responses you have received. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

There is nothing wrong with the OP's question. I had this happen to me when I was much younger in the hospital because I didn't want "bertha" to come give me a sponge back in the hospital. I ended up asking the doctor and he laughed at me. lol. So I can see why the OP wanted to ask here rather than ask the doctor. The doctors do not always sympathize with the patients. Do not discourage others from posting similar questions - this is what the forum is for. Further more this is the ADULT section, if you can not handle ADULT matters, it will NOT be stood for.

Well.

Thanks to the people who posted in the later half of the comments for making me feel better about the first few who brought me down for whatever reason..?

I think the situation is fine and under control now. I was finally able to wash myself and used some gold bond powder and its already looking to have improved as redness and irritation is going away.

first couple days out of surgery I was pretty much in lala land. following couple were followed by hellacious pain from any movement. and last 48hrs I noticed the funkiness- I cleaned best I could while still being in hellacious pain because Im a 23 year old man and would rather not have had to drag myself through the embarrassment of having any of the student nurses which were all my age have to clean my nasty balls or ass.

thank you to the decent people who saved this thread from turning into something that could make other people shy away from having to ask embarrassing questions in fear from getting these kinds of answers.

Glad you're feeling a bit better.

Reading your symptoms / problem just made me think of a possible fungal skin infection, especially as you mentioned the motisure / sweat from laying in bed over several days. This type of infection can happen in any aread of skin where there are for eg creases and mositure gets trapped. Any topical anti fungal cream the chemist should do the trick (like the ones that people use to treat tinea) as well as keeping the area clean / dry which, it sounds like you're doing now. All the best.
