Benadryl is the right thing to do... even if it doesn't itch much (as unlikely as that might be!), it will help keep swelling at bay and reduce the allergic response.

I'm so sorry that he's gotten worse; I hope that the dr called back quickly and that he's doing better today.

Thanks for all your posts!

The Dr. put him on Clindamicin instead-that is a BIG antibiotic! He has to take it in liquid form because the pill is either too small or high dosages.

Anyway-have any of you seen behavior problems with your child on Clindamicin? He already has severe ADHD, and EVERYONE has noticed a big behavior change in him the last few days! He is so hyper, innattentive-he has a high pain tolerance and I am worried the antibiotic is causing him belly pain and it is coming out in behaviors. My hubby and I are counting down the days until he is done! He has been on steroids before for allergic reactions and the Dr. told me to expect behaviors, but we didn't notice a change; but we sure notice a change with this clindamicin! Can't wait until this is over... Thanks for reading!

I am so glad to see your post. I have been thinking of you and your son a lot the last couple days and hoping he was OK (I had SUCH a bad reaction and was picturing worse for him since he's so young...) I was so sick when I was put on steroids that I don't remember how they made me feel side-effect wise.

I'm so sorry that he is having so much trouble with the new antibiotic. I don't think Emily has ever been on Clindomiacin so no experience there. I do know that prednisone made her MISERABLE when she had pneumonia last winter. I just can't remember what antibiotics when was on at the time along with it. I wouldn't be surprised if he is miserable with gi stuff too though.

And if everything is 'going through him', another thought occurs to me: is it possible that anything he takes for the adhd (if he does) isn't being absorbed well? I know in Emily's case certain antibiotics mess up her seizure control because they affect absorption of her meds. I wonder if it could be the same with other kinds of meds too.

I hope he is much better soon. Thank you so much for updating us.
