Reactions to medicines

Our son was in the hospital for a "bowel cleanse" with golytly. He gained almost 20% of his weight in fluid. They stopped it after 4 days of pumping him with fluid and saline. He did not eat at all. He is now deflating and looks like he's been punched in both eyes. His eyes are also sunk-in looking and he kind of looks like a zombie. We called the hospital about it and they said it was, "unusal, but just make sure he's drinking fluids."

Has anyone ever heard of this?? They seem to be totally unconcerned, but he's pale and his face looks very very wrong. Is this a "normal" reaction to anything?

Does he have a bowel obstruction? DS underwent a similar treatment when he had a bowel obstruction last summer; however, they also gave him a PICC line in order to give him TPN (IV Nutrients).

Yes, it was a bowel obstruction (we're also DD508) but they told us that it wasn't long enough to give him nutrients also. He only had saline for almost 5 days.

Assume he's cleared the obstruction? Have they changed protocol in terms of adding a laxative, increased enzymes...? With DS his was caused by adhesions from an original surgery as a newborn, we also increased his enzyme dosage and for the first time ever, he had normal stools.

Hope your little guy is feeling better and starts eating well again.

ive had one bad obstruction and three adhesions after that surgery within about two years. poor kid..god those are horrible..i hope everything goes well from here on out, good luck guys, and Godspeed

If you think that you are having a reaction to a medicine, then a few signs of it would be that your face my swell/get puffy, get red or splotchy in areas. A common reaction is to get bumbs or welts on you face. They may be red or feel irritated.
