My older daughter gets Redmans on Vanc, and is given benadryl prior to infusion, and it is ran over 3 hours. I have to remind them everytime she goes in that it HAS to be ran for 3 hours or else she will develop Redmans. They always want to run it over 2 because I guess that is the norm for those with a reaction...but it doesn't work for Kayla.

My younger daughter gets a severe reaction to Vanc. That was discovered during her first hospitalization back in November. Her reaction was much like your sons. Her face was getting so swollen that her eyes were barely open. Poor thing<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0"> She was miserable!!! It took hours for the swelling to go down. She was switched to Zyvox. And she tolerated that just fine!

Hope thing get better soon!!!

I have severe red blotchy and swollen areas during my redman's syndrome which by the way is a side effect not a reaction. I experience it for 1-3 days and only during the actual infusion time. The first two days I infuse over 2 hrs then I return to the regular infusion rate of 1 hr. I prefer to think that the reason I have the side effect is because the level of staph has reached critical mass. Knowing that it will be over after 1-5 infusions helps me get through it. I have the benedryl available in a drawn up needle in case I enter a very allergic state and need it but for the most time I meditate through it as it's terribly uncomfortable but I hate the way benedryl makes me feel. I also make sure someone is with me those first 1-3 days.
