Oh I am SO mad!
The family threw a small surprise shower for me this weekend and my sister inlaw was there with her husband...who both were coughing so bad they sounded like they had tuberculosis. I mean, I love them to death, but they had no business being around children or a pregnant woman.
Normally in this situation I'd leave, but I wasn't about to leave my own shower. I made several little comments, just to remind them to keep their distance but I had to really lay on the comments for them to not kiss and slobber over my 4 yr old also...I never am like this, but come on.
Well of course this morning I'm beginning the nasal drip and the cough. I literally want to take my sputum cup and throw it all over their car! (sense the pregnancy hormones yet?)
I am about to pop out the baby any day now. Other than upping my game of chest pt, airborne, etc I don't know what else I can do. If I end up coughing as bad as they sound I can't imagine how I'll be able to push out a baby. I don't think I coughed once when I gave birth to my first. Ew I can't imagine the pain of coughing during a contraction...
What to do???

Awe this sounds like a very unpleasant experience. Sorry you are sick. Have you talked to your doctor? Does she want you to start abx to reduce the chance of a secondary bacterial infection? Bring lots of nebs with you to the hospital as you may find you want to do them every 4 hours to keep open and free from mucus as possible. Are you 40 wks this week?

Oh no! I'm sorry that you are having to deal with this right now. It sounds like you did a good job keeping the sickies away from you and your daughter, although sometimes no matter how hard you try the germs still make it back to your household and get someone sick. It's so frustrating when people do understand how much viruses really affect someone with CF, particularly in a situation like the one you're in where you're in a full-term pregnancy. Being sick is the LAST thing you need to deal with right now. Well, being that the damage is likely done, just try and take it easy and get through the virus as quickly as possible. Rest/sleep when you can, drink lots of fluids, do extra CPT, and keep your nutrition up. Sending you ~*healthy*~ vibes.

Thanks ladies, yes next wk is it! But I've already had lots of contractions on and off for days now so its close. I've been physically and mentally done with pregnancy for a week now, but now I'm like 'baby please wait! just a few more days!'
Doc says its too soon to go on abx since this is obviously a virus and only 2 days into it. (on a side note, I was on abx close to delivery with my first and it gave me and LO such a bad case of thrush, that she ended up being in the hospital.) But the first few days of a virus like this just wipes the heck out of me. And coughing this hard with a huge belly...ouch, oh man it hurts so bad.
I think I'm more angry that I got it than anything else when it could have easily been avoided. So I'm going to just let it go, rest, drink lots and take lots of baths. Pull out the big guns but just be at peace with it. Hopefully baby will sense its not a good time! Or if I do go into labor adrenaline will kick in and I'll still be able to get through it.
yes, and I will bring lots of nebs with me to the hosp!

Don't take the power of suggestion too lightly. Tell your baby that you are not quite ready - that you need to feel better to get through labor. My midwife said that babies, when left to their own devices, know when they should be born. Tune into baby and let her (?) know.

When I was heavily pregnant with Scarlett, I was just not ready to have her be born yet (not because I wasn't done being pregnant but I just wasn't "there" yet). But one day something clicked and when I was in the shower I told her that I was ready now. And I went into labor the next morning and had her after 4 hours of labor.

Yes, good point. I'm not 'there' yet either. If I went into labor now I'd be just filled with fear that I won't be able to do it bc of this cough. After having experienced natural childbirth myself and assisted natural birth so many times, I know its all about the fear. And about letting go! Stress will definitely hold back the bodys readiness to go into labor, even OBs will tell you that. Well, thanks for the boost. I'm fighting the cough with everything I can, now I just have to let go and relax. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
Either way, there will be a baby here soon, right? I may as well go with it and not fight!
