Hi,
I have a 4 month old baby that was diagnosed with CF at birth. He was born with Mecomium Ileus and has had 3 surgeries to correct the problem. He finally came home for the first time @ 3 months and has to take enzymes ( capsules that have the powder that is mixed with apple sauce). Now he has a really sore bum. Now when I mean sore, his Bum is bleeding it's so sore and cries bloody murder when he stools. We have put tons of 40% zinc oxide on him but it really doesnh't seem to be doing much. Is there anything eles out there that can help other than the zinc? We are desperate!! Please Help

We had the same issue.

We tried desitin, butt paste, aquaphor, etc. When she does get a sore bottom we use Critic Aid. I had to ask my pharmacist to order it for me. It stays on and doesn't come off with a simple wipe and it heals. I found it on a thread here awhile back. It is for adult incontinence, but my 8 1/2 month has been using it for 3 months now.

I would also suggest to give as much air time to the bum as you can. I cut a trash bag flat then put a blanket on top and let her play naked for as much time as I can. It sucks changing the blanket and trash bag due to pee and poo, but the air helps.

Also, I always put aquaphor on her bottom regardless of a burn. It protects the skin from the enzymes.

Hope this helps!

Oh my gosh, I read "citric acid" instead of "Critic Aid"! Now that would hurt! I've always had great success with Butt Paste...but then again, I don't think our problems have been as severe.

My daughter would get a sore bottom when we used the powder as well. Once we changed to the capsules (the ones with granules Creon) it really seemed to help. You can break them open and put them in the applesauce as well. When she had severe diaper rash we would make our own but cream with aquaphor, bacitracin, nystatin, hydrocortizone, and questor ( I think that was the name but I'll double check) 15mg each and mix. You do have to get a prescription for the nystatin and questor(?) but the rest are over the counter. We also used of all things milk of magnesia mixed with corn starch and that seemed not to make her burn as much. I also agree with babybeauty, air dry as much as possible.
