I have the same problem. I thought it was related to infections, but I had it really bad when I first came home after being in the hospital so infection was minimal. It has pretty much gone away, but I have to be careful how I sit. I tend to sit on my feet with my legs bent.

My daughter is 12 and started having alot of problems with her knees at age 10. They get really stiff and hurt really bad at times. CF doctor sent her to a specialist and she has a type of arthritis that people with CF get that is related to a lack of oxygen in the blood. He said it is also related to all the infections - she has gotten to where she can tell when she is going to have a lung exacerbation by the pain in her knees.

Ditto here, bad knees too.
I don't know if this goes with the whole premature osteoporosis thing or not?
Sometimes, certain antibiotics can cause my joints to be achy too.
Glad to know I'm not alone<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

You are definitely not alone! I have the stiffness/ache in my knees and hips too. I only just found out it was related to cf a couple years ago!

Welcome to arthritis. That is exactly how my knees feel if I sit with them bent too long, also my shoulders, fingers, hips, ankles....pretty much everything. I talked to my CF doc about it and she said that adults with CF get arthritis because our immune system is always on overdrive keeping infections under control. After so long it gets a little confused and starts attacking your joints.

Those of you who have hip pain, how do you know it was from CF? Did you go to a specialist? I have hip and lower back pain, but mainly hip pain and just on one side and it comes and goes.
Any insight would help???

I konw this is the adult section but my daughter who is nine has had really bad knee and general leg pain ever since she could tell us about it. I always thought it must have to do with her CF. I was so glad to see she's not the only one.

I get this as well and also get to the point where my whole body will ache and I can hardly move. I have been given arthritis medicine for it and it gives no relief. I also get a rash which no one can seem to explain. My Drs. have related it to the arthritis that CF patients get. I think they just don't know what else to link it too.

Our daughter is 5 yrs old and has been complaining of knee pain for a couple of years. The CF nurse said it is known as CF arthritis and is common but they don't know what causes it. It gets so bad that some nights she wakes up screaming with pain. Then she can go weeks and it won't bother her at all.

i also suffer stiff knees, elbows, wrists and even the muscles at top of my arms. usually occurs just before an infection. my doc has always said ibuprofen and paracetamol but last time they gave me a 5 day course of steriods and this done the trick really quickly.

My knees went bad four years ago. My health has always been pretty good, but five years ago I got real sick and ended up in the hospital. I was on IV antbiotics for about 5 months when I got out, and during that last month my knee pain started. I was just watching tv and in the space of about 5 or 10 minutes, my knees hurt so bad I was crying - I couldn't bend them or get up. Since then, they only act up once in a while - sometimes one knee, sometimes both, but never as bad as that first time. Advil usually takes the bite out of the pain, but I can't sit in a chair for too long without being able to stretch my legs. I always thought it was related to the IV drugs I had taken, but my doctor didn't seem to know. I do know that if I drink too much caffine in a day, they will get sore.
