Hello,

I have asked a question like this a few weeks ago, but I am just so lost and not sure where to go...everybody keeps making me run laps to find the answers I need.... I am a 19 year old girl with CF..I recieved a lung transplant 5 years ago. I currently just lost my job a few weeks ago, as they went out of businuss. I need to leave my house and establish my own household..my parents will no longer assist me with financial help...I do not have insurance on my own so I am trying to apply for medicaid but I am not sure how to get approved for that being that my parents make 150k A year.......
please help!

Start by contacting the Social Worker at your CF Center. They have handled situations like this before.

It doesn’t matter how much money your parents make if they do not support you then you can and should be considered independent. This particularly is applicable if you did your own tax return this year.
I am enrolled in a Medicaid program called "Health Care for Workers with Disabilities." Each state has different programs that might be helpful. Since you currently aren't working, perhaps not this one. Find out what is available in your state.
I also suggest contacting your social worker who will work as an intermediary in most cases. But if you apply as independent of your parents, you should be fine. Are you currently on their insurance? Perhaps if the situation permits you can ask to be on theirs for a bit longer while you find housing and apply? Medicaid will usually pay medical bills for up to 90 days prior to the acceptance of your application too, if you need things covered for now but know you will get accepted later.
