When I've had a "flutter" (butterfly wing) sensation in my chest I usually end up with a bleeder. Has he ever had bleeding from his lungs?

Last year I was running high fevers that were difficult to control. It was connected to some type of virus which shut down my airways. At the start of it, there was no infection. Of course as my airways shut down, the infection brewed because I couldnt get the crap up. It was a scary time because I dont normally run temps even at my sickest.

I started running consistant low grade fevers ( that started out around the same time each day) right before i knew i had b.cepacia. It took close to a year for my Dr. to find it on my sputum sample( mostly because i didnt give samples often). It seemed like i'd feel crappy, coughing all the time, unbelievably tired, and those darned recurrent low grade fevers, and my Dr. would put me on an oral antibiotic and i'd feel better for a week or so and then it would all start again. Then my Dr. would switch to another antibiotic and i'd start feeling better for another week or so, and then it would all start again. This went on for months till it finally showed up in my sputum sample. Now i am on a regimen of 3 antibiotics at all times rotating them every 2 weeks (sometimes 3 weeks if i am feeling great). I feel much better and i still do sometimes get the lowgrade fevers or just the body aches, but tylenol manages that . Make sure when your husband goes to his next Dr. visit to mention b.cepacia so they can look out for it specifically. Now for the heart flutters in the chest. I was told that when we are dehydrated we can have a heart beat that skips every here and there. Make sure he is drinking a lot of fluids .... it will be good for the heart and the fevers as well. It helps to flush the fever out of the body so to speak.

I run low grade fevers everyday that I'm not on an anitibiotic. It took a while for the dr's to figure it out, but they think that it's my MRSA. I have to take one ibuprofen every morning and I'm ususally fine for the rest of the day. I do culture psuedo too but it's "light growth", that's why they think it's the staph. I hope he feels better and figures it out. It's extremly agrevating to have fevers everyday and the dr's think your crazy. I have heart flutters and they ususally link it to the antibiotics.

We've mentioned cepacia to his doctors, but they've been taking his sputum cultures pretty often and each time, he grows nothing but Pseudo. In fact, two doctors assured us this wasn't cepacia, but as his fevers linger, I'm really starting to wonder. I've also been thinking this could be staph, but again, his cultures aren't growing that. I think we'll ask the doctors to take another culture and let it grow out longer than normal.

It could be some kind of virus, so antibiotics will not really help...
I had the so called "kissing disease" in my thirties that is the EBV virus with low grade fevers all the time and it can get chronic...it did in my case.
At first the doctors did not want to test it, they thought, I was too old for it, but I insisted and -what a surprise- it was EBV!

Ther is als a virus out ther called CMV. I had it several years ago and thought it was going to kill me. I would run a fever everyday and was exhausted. CMV is one of those virus kids get when they are little and nobody really knows they have it because it presents in them like a cold, but when adults get it, it is totally different. I was sick with it for over a month including 2 weeks of antibiotics.

I don't have CF but I have been getting fevers daily for the last couple of months. I am not sick in any other way. I went in for it and of course was not running a fever at the time I went in the nurse thought I was cracked and the doctor said it was just a virus sorry no drugs no nothing just suck it up. The fever went away for a couple of weeks and now it is back. I'm 22 could it be early menopause? Are some of these other things, MRSA b. cepacia, something I could get without haveing CF?

Beth,
You and I (without CF) can't catch pseudomonas, MRSA, cepcia, etc. from our loved ones with bronchiectasis.
Our lungs just aren't "juicy" enough to have the right environment for these badies to live.
That's what my husband's doctor told me--- and that was my experience as well.

Doesn't help you figure out what is causing your fevers though.....
