Recurrent Pink Eye

Okay so I once again have pink eye. I just got over it about 3 weeks ago and probably a month before that. Each time, I've thrown away all my make-up afterwards. I'm pretty sure it's bacterial pink eye too, because I'm getting the yellowish/greenish discharge and my eyes are matted together every morning. About 3 years ago, I got pink eye pretty bad, so my doctor did a culture. It turned out to be bacterial, so she prescribed me some antibiotic eye drops. I still have some of them left, so I've been using them, but I'm almost out now since this is the 3rd time in 2 months. What could be causing this?

my 3 y/o often gets it and she was prescribed antibiotic drops too. She gets it b/c she keeps rubbing her eyes, touching her face etc, not sure what would cause it in an adult

Vigamox is usually used for pink eye. It is moxyfloxacin a.k.a Avelox in drop form (one of the quinolones). Is that what you are using? It is like $70 for a thimblefull.

Unless you wear contact lenses, which make pink eye really hard to kick, I think a culture is a good idea. You may have a resistant bacteria b/c of oral med use for your lungs? Donno...

Touching your eyes or being around little kids are the biggest culprits...that and allergies, which cause eye rubbing and make a breeding ground for bacteria.

Unless you wear contact lenses, which make pink eye really hard to kick, I think a culture is a good idea. You may have a resistant bacteria b/c of oral med use for your lungs? Donno...

Do you culture MRSA or H. Flu in your sinuses? If so, it can set up shop in your eyes. You really need to get it cultured, and treated properly, because left alone, it can cause permanent damage.

Hope you get it under control soon. I'm sure it's quite miserable.

I agree with Melissa, contacts are the #1 culprit in bacterial conjunctivitis. If you don't wear contacts, try to pay attention to how much you rub your eyes and things like that.
