Reduced Growth Velocity

Lauren's height and weight have stalled for the last two years. She had been over the 50th percentile in both when she was 7. Now she is almost 10 and has dropped to below the 25th percentile in both.

A friend mentioned that her son is very small because he uses so many steriods, like Flovent. She was surprised that I didn't realize that steriods could impact a child's growth. Has anyone had such a problem? How could I have missed this?

Lauren is about to go through a growth hormone stimulation test (5 hours) and a gastric emptying study (2 hours) as the doctors try to figure out why she isn't eating or growing even though all of her labs are coming back normal. I hate to have her go through all of that if we can get her growing again by cutting back on the Flovent.

Do the test. The flovent would not have that much of a impact on her growth. My daughter was only in the 3% for height and weight. It was her hormones that they treated.

They thought if they could get her to 4'11 before her growth plates closed that would be good. Well, she made it to 5'2 before they closed. Because she is a girl alot of things are going on that the CF can affect.

Please do not just chaulk it up to the meds. The doc's always check those out first to see what role they are playing. Depending on the dose they can rule them out. If you
still have concerns discuss it with them and let them know
