reflux anyone?

My son with CF, now almost 4, had bad reflux for about his first 18 months or so. We quite literally had to keep him upright 24 hours a day or his food would roll out of him...we bought a lazy-boy recliner and just took turns holding him while he ate or slept. He took zantac until this past summer then switched to prilosec and it's under control. He still gets hiccups easily and the switch to prilosec was because he was starting to complain of stomach acid bubbling up into his throat after eating. I think the combination of starting more solid foods plus getting bigger/stronger as he grew plus strict compliance with his enzymes and antacids is what got him to the point where he could finally sleep lying down.

I hope you get to the bottom of your little guy's troubles.

DS supposedly had reflux when he was a baby. We inclined his crib mattress, he was on zantac and we tried, tried to get a burp out of him before putting him down for the night. He was a terrible burper and every once in awhile he'd spit up. He also tended to wheeze off and on that first year, but attributed that more to upper respiratory bugs that we're going around and sinus issues. We stopped the zantac when he was around a year old and he really hasn't had reflux issues since.

We also did CPT 3-4 times a day, as per his CF doctor. When we mentioned the wheezing, we were told to "beat that cough/wheeze" out of him.

DH's cousin's son (no cf) was born a few months after DS and he had terrible, silent reflux. Had to sleep in a car seat, was in horrible pain. Zantac was a wonder drug for him. He didn't seem to have any aspiration or wheezing issues though.

Liza, Cheyenne slept in her carseat too for a long time...then I bought one of those pregnancy wedge pillows and put it under her crib mattress...that really helped raise her up but we had to be careful how we placed her in there (when really young) cause it would make her roll to the bottom (other end) of her bed..lol...
She took Raglan and Zantac...now she is on Prevacid.
