Reflux?

Those of us who are pancreatic insufficient actually lack bicarbonate, which helps naturally reduce acid in our stomach.

So many CFer's, despite not eating a few hours before bed, no caffine, mints, alcohol or spicy foods, yadi yadi yadi still have reflux. There's something no or not enough bicarbonate in our stomaches.

SO..... you can start taking your med twice a day (ask for doc's guidance but many of us, including myself, take our proton pump inhibitors [PPI] 2x a day); you can also make sure you're taking your PPI ask directed which is 30 - 60 minutes before a meal. This increases the medications efficacy.

Finally, you can supplement with Zantac (ranitidine) for breakthrough symptoms.

If things continue to not go well, this could mean there might be a physical issue with your esophagus and an endoscopy from a gastro would be necessary.

Take care

Thank you all for replying

I think im going to start with elevating the bed of my head and using my Proton pump inhibitor tablet twice a day, hopefully this will solve the issue.

I have the worst reflux. When I'm on certain drugs, I can barely keep any food in my stomach. It seems that what irritates me are spicy foods, carbonated stuff, and dairy. Do you see a GI doc? I went to see one after I was vomiting up basically everything I ate and lost about 25 pounds. She prescribed regalin. Its something you take before you eat. There has been some bad publicity about it- but if you need it you NEED it. Hope you figure out what is bothering you, even if it ends up not being reflux.

Hi,

Wow, I feel a little ignorant having read these posts. I think I have had some reflux for years now but never thought to mention it to my docs. The symptom that really jumped off the page to me is voice loss- this has happened for years! My voice was always quite husky but now will occasionally completely go. I used to associate this with the few days coming back onto tobi every alternate month. Despite all the playful comments I get about it being "sexy" I actually thinks its ANNOYING!

Is reflux really that damaging and should I get onto my docs pronto to get it treated? In order to relate the severity of it I could say it is only after eating too much, eating any kind of dairy (which I try to avoid anyway) and dark chocolate. It would often be about 10-20mls of food...sorry, gross!
