Regular Flu shot body aches and fatigue

I got the seasonal flu shot and the next day had all the flu symptoms, fever, bodyaches, headache. It was awful! Bc of this my dr told me not to get the swine flu shot. So I still think its possible to get the flu from the shot even though the dr thought it highly unlikely!

Hey, Jessica.

That is a myth that you actually get the flu FROM the flu shot. However, you can get side effects from the shot cause your immune system sorta "attacks" it like it would the actual virus. This is how its always been described to me anyway. The fever and aches, etc. is your body recognizing a foreign agent and attacking it. Since its a dead virus, it really shouldn't go further than that (i.e. shouldn't turn into a full put-you-in-the-hosptial flu with respiratory issues, etc.)

As for not getting the swine flu shot cause of a reaction to the seasonal flu shot... I had the H1N1 shot almost 5 days ago and it was nothing. No fever, no aches, chills, etc. My arm barely even hurt. With the seasonal shot I felt awful and could barely keep my temp under 101 with tylenol. So, though I'd put some stock in what the doc said, I'd maybe question why since they're completely different strains.

Plus, if you get the side effects like fevers, aches, chills, etc. but get better in a few days, isn't it worth still getting the shot? I'd never let the few days I felt awful (as in could barely walk to the bathroom) keep me from getting the shot. It didn't move into my respiratory system like the regular flu does, so I'm ok with the achey if I can preserve my lungs. Just my opinion though. I'm sure its different with everyone and everyone will have their opinion on this as with all vaccines. And, since you're listed, maybe it ISN'T safe to put your immune system through that.

Weird that a lot of us have had reactions for the first time to the seasonal shot this year. Maybe it is the particular strain or something....

My arm just usually is sore for a couple days and sometimes I feel a little off, headachey, but usually no fever.

DH's cousin had a similar experience to yours. But then ended up getting the H1N1. What she suspects happened was while she was waiting in the clinic for her seasonal flu shot, she must've picked up some 'cooties' from another patient.

Happened to me several years ago as well -- I'd gone in for a tentanus booster and got sick a few days later.

This year's seasonal flu shot affected me more than any other has, as far as I can remember. I had aches, fever and chills for several days later. My arm hurt for more than a week from the injection. I know that you cannot "catch" the flu from the shot, and always thought that those symptoms are "mind over matter", but I felt awful after receiving the vaccine. So did my non-CF sister.

I received the H1N1 vaccine two days ago, and my arm only hurts if I poke around on the skin to look for the injection site. No side effects, either. Now I just have to get through the next two weeks without acquiring the oinky flu...hard to do considering I have 5 doctors appointments! Mask and gloves and full body armour!
