Do you, when you watch tv, movies or tv series, like e.g. Sex and the City, do you identify with them? I mean not if you are like e.g. Samantha (too much) but just their life. Work, relationship, babies etc. There is nothing about chronical illnesses, although Samanthan had cancer, but overcame it.

We don't see the lives of people with illnesses as ours. I love SATC, and it gives me a good feeling to watch it. And movies about day to day lives, I also love. But my life it not like theirs. I have to take medication day and night. I have limitations. But I don't see this portraied in popular shows and movies. So I guess I can't relate to them. All though I'd like, but maybe we look to to silver screen for things/lives different than our own. But I still feel like a "normal" person. Like I could be them. But then again I can not.

Movies and TV have traditionally been an escape for many people. They want to get away from their reality and share that of someone else. I think it will be the exception rather than the rule to see people with chronic disease portrayed in mainstream media. It's the same reason you wont see poor TV characters sitting around in frumpy sweatshirts eating Ramen noodles. It would make for depressing TV.

Even characters with Cf or other diseases like cancer etc do not resemble to real life people. Like Greys Anatomy that i remember.... The Cf character did not resemble to us at all! Good try though!

Can't relate to any shows on TV except maybe 'Ice Road Truckers'. That's just cuz I drove a semi for 23 years until my body quit.
Nope, Hollywood has zero in common with me, my situation or my Wife's life...
Hope this helps.

Thanks for replying. I still wish there were shows about people like us. Because it's our reality. And, in my case at least, it's not that different from other people's lives. It's just a part of my life. Doing treatments. And I think it could be portraied, without it being made depressing... it's like typically when you see a character cough on a tv show, then he's seriously ill... come on. Life's not like that. I hope one day to see cronical illness being portraied without it being a "big" deal.

I agree with Jonathan...tv is usually an escape. I don't want to watch someone doing nebs and hocking up nasties : ) But if you're that passionate about it, call a channel like Discovery Health or something and see if they want to do something about you.

If you think about it, many people may be interested in the life of us CF'ers.
If for no other reason than to compare how good they have it as compared to someone who has to deal with CF on a daily basis.
There may be a reality show in it for one of us eh?
People may be intersted in the whole transplant story too.
Lord knows there is alot to show when it comes to Transplant.
