Renting portable O2 for flight

We leave for vacation next Thursday. Jesse passed the O2 altitude test in December, but his doctor changed her mind (grrr) and now would like him to have O2 for the flight.

We don't have O2 at home and wondered if anyone has used the delta rental service OxygenToGo?

I am curious if anyone can give me a head's up about traveling with a POC?

I'm overwhelmed.

The vest, 2 nebulizer compressors and supplies, 2 g-tube pumps, 2 g-tube bags and formula and of course all the medicine. Almost doesn't seem worth a vacation...

It will be worth it Jane. Think about how the boys can help you with all this. And definitely call ahead and get wheelchairs (no waiting in security lines) and preboarding. Totally worth it!

Hmmm, no lines and preboarding sounds pretty nice. But my boys want no part of the "special" treatment. Jesse is already furious that his doc flip-flopped on the O2 after he passed the altitude test. They would not allow me to call for a wheelchair. Honestly they really don't need one, so it would be one more thing to coordinate.

Thanks for the advice though!

Just got back yesterday flying on Delta! I did not however use the POC on board the plane. I did bring it as a carry on. I called Oxygen to go, the doctor had to fill out the form, and then get it approved. They made a note in the system and we were able to pre-board.
It was worth it to have the pre-board even though I wasn't using the O2 on the plane. We had so much other carry on medical stuff, it makes flying easier if you are able to board before everyone else.

Delta was great about it and you should use the preboard in my opinion.

I was going to suggest what musclemania did. Have the POC in case you need it, but don't put him through using it if it is not needed. I don't know if you have a pulse oximeter, but it is a worth while investment to have one anyway. You can check his sats a few times on the plane to see if you need to pull it out. I would bet he will be fine.

You can also rent a concentrator from Apria and carry it on. But like the others said, I didn't use it unless I needed it...which I didnt really feel the need to. As long as its approved by the airlines, you can carry your own on, theres supposed to be a little sticker on them.

Yes, I think that's what we'll do. Renting it from oxygentogo would be $425 for the POC and $40 for the battery. I talked to our clinic and they said it is not covered by insurance, but getting it through your own company is (don't know why). they're helping me with the details.
