You have to have a life threatening disease that is either debiliating or progressive. By definition, CF is a qualifier for MAW nomination.

How long it takes depends upon the chapter in your area. From start to finish for M, it took 3 months.

hi!
i just saw your post and your wonderful pictures! i know many have already asked you, but how did you go about doing the wish? we have been talking about it as well, but we're just trying to time it. how long did it take to get approved? how long was the trip? we're in ontario (i don't know if that would make a difference or not). please write back if you can!!

Ok, first of all location won't matter much, other than you will obviously fly to Orlando if you went to Disney (we are 8hrs from Orlando, and they let us pick fly/drive).

Make-A-Wish foundation has locations all of the world. Basically what you do is contact the local chapter (or a Dr/social worker can) and tell them you are interested.

They will get your Dr. to complete something confirming the dx (CF is an automatic qualifier).

They will then send a volunteer to your home to meet the child, talk to them and document their 'wish' and a couple of backups. They will also ask for date ranges that work for you, and confirm who is in your family.

They then do a ton of paperwork, and once it is approved they will schedule your trip.

In our case, it took about 3 months start-to-finish; I've heard stories of both faster & slower. Disney World is MAW's most common wish, so is it pretty standardized at this point. You get travel costs, a week in Orlando, housing at Give Kids the World, all your meals/expenses covered and tickets to Disney, Universal & Sea World.

If anyone has more questions, or specific things you want to know, feel free to PM me.
