You will get a statement for your son showing what they paid to you for him.
I get mine around May, but that is the around the time I was approved so not sure if this is the standard time or if its based on your disability approval date.
It shows the $$ amount paid for the child(s) & asked you to show what you saved versus what you spent of it & if you saved whose names are on the account.
IF you dont already know this YOUR name MUST be on the account the $$ is going into. I found out this with my first report I sent in. I got a phone call from SS because originally the account in place was under my husband ONLY FOR Jazmine since it was with his credit union.
We then went in & put my name on it also. JOINT is ok as long as your name is on it. I took the paperwork from SS to show the credit union what was needed so they understood.
I use to freak if we didnt save the same amount or a good portion of the amount paid for Jazmine. Now I realize that for us (3 people) its ok to split all household bills 3 ways & then any extras (clothing, toys etc) for just Jazmine can come out of her $$.
I am guessing that unless you are totally careless with the $$ things really are simple.
One other thing I found which startled me is whatever you report as being saved THAT year will be added to what is PAID the next year & sitting as the dollar figure on the paperwork from them.
So if you get $100.00 in benefits for 2009 & in 2008 you reported saving $75. of the 2008 benefits then your paperwork in 2009 will show $175. you have to account for.
If you have any other ??? give me a shout!
PS the only paperwork I had to ever show was the change of the name on the account I spoke of, but since everything is basically legit. It wouldnt be hard to prove where the $$ goes if they asked.
